Certainly no unit of the Temple fits the category of “unsung heroes” more closely than does the Purveyors Unit.
While the Temple dinner party is in full swing – and actually for hours before – this unit has been preparing, cooking and serving the feast. Then, as the partygoers are wending their way homeward after the repast, the cleanup is yet unfinished.
Whether it’s an early morning breakfast with lots of great coffee, a ‘burger and dog’ barbecue lunch, or a full course banquet dinner, this unit asks but three questions: What day? What time? How many?
The Purveyors unit was really activated during 1967, when Noble Rick Fukumoto was named its Director at the January 1968 meeting of the Temple. There is no glamour – no cheering of the crowd – but the Purveyors carry on and the Temple is richer for their unselfish service. This unit continues to be active, with Illustrious David Gomes, PP as its Master Chef.
